So, Taormina in Sicily. WHAT. A. PLACE. I don’t think I can recall a better part of Italy other than Rome for its perfect people watching. The spectrum of interesting folk and their scenes is vast and wide and all shoved into this little-big city on a cliff, overlooking the Ionian Sea. It's colourful, it's tasty, it's breathtaking and it's like every other sub part of Italy; unique.
I did this trip with a group of friends, 7 adults and 2 children and we spent a total of 4 days in the most wonderful accommodation space that had an elevator down to a private beach. The IDEAL PLACE to take your 7am espresso down to the ladder, launching yourself off and into the aqua sea, nobody around. Bless. Perfection. Simple PLEASURES!
It is imperative that I mention that I spent a good portion of this trip being low key and having to work for half of the Taormina visit, which undoubtedly ended up being incredibly exhausting as I had just recovered from COVID a week earlier in Catania (death be me). Running a business and running events whilst being overseas is not the most relaxing decision I have ever made but anyhoo - we learn from our mistakes huh! Luckily two of the friends I was travelling with also have businesses so we just created a little dining room office set up and tapped away our troubles on laptops. Mornings by the beach, mid mornings in the ‘office’, a mid arvo siesta followed by another swim, a snack by me and dinner up in town. In hindsight, it’s not really that bad is it?
I hope you enjoy the below recs of where to stay, eat and swim! Three of my favourite Italian food experiences happened in this town. This is an excerpt from my Mediterranean Pleasure Spots guide which you can find here. It's 164 pages of my recommendations with food places, travel tips, beach maps and places to stay through four parts: Sicily, Puglia, Naxos and Paros. Thanks for following along with what is always the most fun thing to do: move about!
I hope you en-JOY!
